Unbox Sports started with a conversation at the 2023 US Open in NYC between Yannick Yoshizawa and Wim Fissette. Yannick had worked in the WTA for almost 10 years, while Wim had been coaching at the highest level for almost 15 years.
They had both seen the difficult reality of tour coaches and the lack of effort in sharing their stories, representing their interests and opening market doors that understand their high value in sports.
While Yannick was exploring different routes in modernizing tennis and taking on the entrepreneurial path, Wim had wanted to start something that elevates coaches years before but never had the chance to realize it as he was so focused on his players. A partnership was then started.
Yannick and Wim officially started Unbox Sports in January 2024 to elevate professional tour tennis coaches both on and off the court, with Wim as its first client to test its potential in the tennis industry.
With Yannick leading the business side, he saw the advantages of bringing in legal and brand support to structure the startup, tell its story and help set up future clients for success. Soon, Maria Eduarda Reis joined as the in-house general attorney, followed by Flavia Araujo taking on the brand's storytelling.
The team launched Unbox Sports publicly at the 2024 US Open, hosting 50 coaches in a gathering to share its mission and introduce them into this unprecedented journey as the first group to explore opportunities for the collective of tour tennis coaches and help make their role in the industry more professional and respected by its peers.
